Theresa practices counselling through a Strength-Based and Trauma-Informed lens. She believes her clients already have the capacity and skills to work through their challenges and that often, all we need is someone to guide us through that process. Theresa’s approach allows the client the opportunity to be the expert of their own experience and be in control of their counselling process. Theresa views her clients through a holistic lens, exploring how their environment, early childhood experiences and life events have influenced the way they think and feel. Theresa utilizes her compassionate, curious and empathetic personality, as well as humour, to create a safe and helpful environment for exploration.
Theresa integrates interventions and skills from a variety of modalities. Her approach is grounded in Attachment Theory, and she integrates a variety of interventions from modalities such as Emotion-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Motivational Interviewing. Her hope is that through their counselling experience, her clients can develop a more compassionate relationship with themselves.
